About Michael Pirhalla
I am currently a Physical Scientist within EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) Center for Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response (CESER) Homeland Security and Materials Management Division (HSMMD). I support a wide variety of research roles related to fate and transport and environmental surface sampling for emergency preparedness. Our research directly supports the Homeland Security Research Program (HSRP), EPA Regional Partners, and other governmental organizations such as DHS and CDC. I also support flow and dispersion research projects at EPA's Fluid Modeling Facility Meteorological Wind Tunnel Laboratory. These studies aim to improve algorithms for dispersion models, including AERMOD, EPA's regulatory dispersion model. From 2017-2021, I was a Pathways Intern at EPA while a PhD student in the Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences Department at North Carolina State University.
