About Michael Plummer

I am the Eni Professor of Economics at the Johns Hopkins University, SAIS Europe. Previously, I was Director of SAIS Europe (2014-2023), Head of the Development Division of the OECD (2010-2012), Associate Professor of Economics at Brandeis University (1992-2001), and Research Fellow at the East-West Center (1988-1992). In addition, I was Director of MA programs, International Business School, at Brandeis University (1993-2001), Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Asian Economics (2007-2015), and President of the American Committee for Asian Economic Studies (2007-2015). I am a former Pew Fellow of International Affairs at Harvard University and a Fulbright Chair in Economics. My research focuses on international economic integration and cooperation, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. I have directed and participated in numerous projects for international organizations, government agencies, multilateral and regional development banks, and development organizations over the past 35 years and have taught or been a visiting scholar at a dozen universities and research institutes in Europe and Asia. I am on several editorial boards, including the Journal of Southeast Asian Economics and the Asian Economic Journal, and am an Honorary Senior Fellow and member of the Comitato Scientifico of the Rimini Center for Economic Analysis (RCEA).
