About Michael Powers

Michael is a Finance Director at Abt Associates Inc. responsible for global entity management, global treasury, and global risk management. In this capacity Michael has over 15-years of experience as a treasury & risk management practitioner dealing with risk issues in over 60 countries (mostly in the international development sector). This work includes supporting a portfolio of over 225 bank accounts. Michael’s experience includes significant C-suite facing responsibilities and crisis management activities. Michael's risk background is complimented with over 10+ years of experience at Verizon and other government contractors in progressive finance and IT positions. Part of this work involved significant onsite international work involving financial system conversions. This background has enabled Michael to deal with a myriad of risk issues (particularly cyber and clinical trials) as part of his role at Abt. Outside of Abt Associates Inc. Michael is active in ESG matters as Board Treasurer of the Alewife TMA (a major public-private partnership in the Greater Boston Area dealing with transportation challenges). Michael's prior board experience includes Vice Chair of the Catholic Foresters Insurance Company (a 150+ year old Mass. insurance company - where Michael implemented a cyber governance program). In addition to Michael's insurance background, he is an emeritus member of the FP & A Global Advisory Board at AFP (Association for Finance Professionals).
