About Michael Pudlo

Mike is a Design Engineer at GE Aerospace supporting the RISE program working towards developing new technologies for use in the next generation of aircraft engines. Working on this program, he has applied CAD modeling and FEA to support the design and manufacturing of combustor components. His previous roles have included working as an undergraduate researcher and the structures lead of his college’s high-powered rocketry club. As a research assistant with the Composite Manufacturing and Design Lab at NCSU he assisted in developing template free manufacturing methods for micro-structured composite films with tunable optical and thermal properties. These films have a broad range of applications including providing passive cooling and anti-fouling properties. The project could potentially be used for thermal control of spacecraft and solar cells. With The High-Powered Rocketry Club at NCSU he designed and manufactured carbon fiber composite fins for use on a high-powered rocket which were able to reduce weight by 30% while maintaining structural integrity. These fins were then implemented into a novel design which allowed damaged components to be easily replaced improving manufacturability and ease of use.
