About Michael Ranson

I am a barrister specialising in property law and landlord and tenant work. My practice covers a wide range of litigious and advisory work acting for all manner of clients from private individuals to organisations large and small. Recent court and tribunal highlights have included- an eight day High Court proprietary estoppel and unjust enrichment trial- an appeal concerning the proper application of a limitation defence- a four day trial concerning a high street bank's mortgage redemption policies- resisting an application for registration of a vehicular right of way over residential property; and - obtaining an urgent freezing injunction over service charge bank accounts. Between 2004 and 2019 I was a solicitor at Macfarlanes LLP, and became a partner in the firm in 2012. When practising as a solicitor I was ranked in Band One as an individual by Chambers and Partners for high value residential real estate work. Chambers and Partners has variously claimed I am 'a once in a generation lawyer'(2019),'meticulous and thorough'(2018) and have 'a capacity to retain knowledge that's breath-taking'(2017). The 2019 Legal 500 described me as ‘highly intelligent, available and very responsive’ whilst the Spears 500 guide in 2018 listed me as one of its ‘Top 5 Property Lawyers’ and claimed that I am ‘one of the most sought-after lawyers in London’.
