About Michael Read

Recently appointed to the role of CEO for Icon Group, i'm a construction professional with over 25 years’ experience managing all aspects of the construction cycle. I have worked in business development/marketing, all aspects of project delivery from design management, construction management and general management of multiple construction divisions. A complete overview of the construction process enables me to make informed decisions that will ultimately lead to successful outcomes. People are at the forefront of everything we do in construction and a collaborative and approachable manner ensures strong relationships with clients, consultants, staff, subcontractors and suppliers. I am passionate about leading, training and mentoring staff to allow them to progress and have successful careers within the Icon Group. I’ve had the opportunity to work across Australia, delivering projects in all states and territories including remotely in North West Australia, the Nullarbor and remote Tasmania. My international experience has seen me work on diverse projects including three years working in Puerto Rico in the Caribbean. I’ve been fortunate to have worked on a variety of projects ranging from international pharmaceutical projects, large retail facilities, education, health and research facilities. Projects have predominantly been services complex with challenging design and construction aspects. In recent years, I was responsible for the strategic business direction and growth of the Icon NSW, ACT & Barpa divisions. Overseeing and responsible for the performance of project teams, ensuring a quality result was delivered in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner.
