Background
About Michael Reno
I currently work for HonorHealth as an EPIC analyst working on the Cupid team. My previous career was an echo sonographer for 8 years and supervisor for non invasive for half my time in the medical field. Working as an echo tech and supervisor I was constantly looking at our EMR system and working with providers, techs and IT to update and maintain structured reporting. When an opportunity presented itself to join the Cupid team, I applied. I wanted to use my knowledge with echo to assist in creating EMR that was intuitive for providers and techs. My current role as an EPIC Cupid analyst is maintaining non invasive and invasive workflow. With HonorHealth we have many interfaces with images, measurements, and reports from outside vendors. I maintain servers that handle third party applications. Constantly updating structured reporting for providers. Creating toolboxes and text generation withing procedures logs. Creating and maintaining new procedures, EAP and ORPs. HonorHealth is under constant expansion and deployment which means our team is tasked with creating new department and resource records and then updating related records with new DEP records. One build I am very proud about was Measurement Driven Findings. When I first joined IT, I was tasked with creating measurement driven findings macro for HonorHealth. While EPIC had a macro for this, the build was not accurate and we decided to start from scratch. I was able to use my echo background to look at all ASE guidelines to create a synopsis of what the macro could recommend. With HonorHealth having 8 different hospitals and over 15 different cardiology clinics it was difficult to create a guideline that all providers could agree upon. With dialing down to ASE guidelines, which is the gold standard for echo, it was more agreeable to all providers as a starting point. Once the scope was created I could begin build, creating difficult logic grading diastolic dysfunction as an example. Prior to going live I created a spreadsheet showing all logic, criteria and even linked the ASE resource so techs and providers could easily read literature on the criteria. After going live EPIC I had applied to present at 2023 XGM. After presentation EPIC developers reached out to discuss further so they could update their out of box build.
