About Michael Reyka

Michael Reyka earned his PhD in Leadership and Administrative Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and both his MBA and his BS from Mount St. Mary’s University. His doctoral dissertation research involved disruptive behaviors among professional clinicians in the hospital Operating Theater, using stress theory and the concept of appraisal to explore professional relationships and job satisfaction. Dr. Reyka is the Chief Operating Officer for Brook Lane Behavioral Health Services. Immediately prior, he led the Meritus Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and Clinical Transformation Organization (CTO) and he served as the CEO of Western Maryland Hospital Center through a 3-year management agreement between Meritus and the State of Maryland from 2015 through 2018. With greater than 25 years in healthcare leadership in both for-profit and not-for-profit hospitals and medical centers, he has served as Chief Officer, Executive Director and Vice President. His clinical career involved emergency services as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Certified Trauma Nurse (BTLS/ACLS), and Pre-hospital Health Professional with Medic-28 in Adams County, PA. He has served on the executive committees of two boards as well as numerous committees associated with community not-for-profit organizations. He has also served as a Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award examiner for the Maryland state-level program and he is certified by Virginia Mason Health System in advanced LEAN processes. He has been an adjunct assistant professor of management at Gettysburg College, teaching Organizational Theory and Organizational Behavior. In addition to his interest in leadership, Dr. Reyka is a musician and an avid historian specific to the 45th Infantry Division, 180th Regiment in the European Theater of Operations during WWII. His research in this area involves official historical records and personal interviews with veterans and French villagers. He authored the memoir, A Son’s Journey: Uncovering my Father’s Life as a Thunderbird and he authored the manuscript Left in the Forest after retracing his father’s footsteps across the French countryside and discovering the traumatic events that led to his father’s emotional distance and introspective demeanor.
