About Michael Rich
I am an artist, educator and arts administrator working in higher education since 1997. My personal creative work in drawing, painting and printmaking seeks to probe the personal though the language of abstraction. My studio work is a daily influence on my philosophy as an educator who sees art as tremendous vehicle for personal growth and community activism. I have done a great deal of work in curricular development with an eye toward interdisciplinary art program evolution in a contemporary context. I believe in the power of creative communities and am a founding board member of Arts in Common, a 501c3, created to to restore and repurpose historic school buildings in Bristol, RI as a center for arts and design. I am continually looking for ways to connect the academic world of the study of art to communities of artists through involvement, mentorship and exchange.
