About Michael Roberts

Admitted as a lawyer in 1983 specialising in insurance work, I was named as a recommended Defendant Public Liability lawyer in Doyles Guide in 2016 as a result of client and peer nominations. I defend personal injury claims including catastrophic claims. I have managed a substantial range of property claims, including construction and major motor property claims and recoveries. I have had great success in recovery initiatives for both Suncorp and Lumley in major construction litigation. I have also handled major fraud claims and A&H matters. I have a special interest in IT, cyber and data protection claims and privacy claims. I also provide policy wording drafting and advice. I conduct litigation in all relevant jurisdictions in Australia - the Federal, Supreme, District and Local Courts, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) as well as VCAT and QCAT and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). I present seminars to clients on developments in the industry such as the following topics: • Presentation to London Market Association at Lloyd's of London 2016 (NEL) and 2017(Property recoveries) • Training programs on Liability, Estimating and Recoveries 2014, 2015 and 2016 • Current trends in Civil Liability NSW 2013 - 2017 • Subrogation (2013), Recoveries (2009 - 2017) • Proportionate Liability (2016) and Experts and Joint experts, conclaves and hot tubs (2016) • Liability of Building professionals (2012-2017) • Lectured at UTS in Certificate IV course on claims management (2009) I have a particular personal interest in programming and software development, designing an IS system for legal practices (he designed our CALS, NELDB and ESI systems). I take pride in being able to provide cost effective, client-focused risk shared subrogated recovery programs for underwriters.
