Background
About Michael Ronan
I'm team leader with a strong cross-functional background, with roles in project, design, and fluid dynamics disciplines. The most enjoyable parts of being a leader is the combination of variety and mentorship opportunities. An innovator at heart, from my 7 patents to my constant pursuit of eliminating day to day nuisances through process and tool improvements. A few things I'm proud of, big and small- Simultaneously leading teams, with about 10FTEs combined, through detailed design of a development program. We ended up with some really interesting, novel parts to address unique design constraints, with just a couple risk items left to be burned down down through validation testing- I was team leader and a project engineer in an organization that was stood up in January 2020. Charged with supporting part and engine production, an already volatile responsibility, we were just getting our feet wet when the Covid pandemic hit. Through the chaos we pivoted to fully remote work, leveraging new tools to keep alignment and making sure our team's parts kept moving- While integrating a new design with a customer's product, we were faced with a minimum separation requirement for cabling that would not fit in the space provided. I did some quick hand calculations to establish that the customer requirement aligned with a minimum heat rejection rate to ensure component temperature limits were within limits. Once verified, I put together a quick 2D CFD study to understand the impact of spacing with respect to our installation. The customer agreed to the reduced spacing based on the study, preventing a significant redesign effort.
