I founded Electric Machine Specialists (EMS) in 2018 as an independent engineering consultancy to provide clients with creative, competitive solutions to technical challenges in the application, design, and construction of electric machines and the electrification of mechanical systems. EMS is electric machine topology agnostic: axial or radial flux, induction or synchronous, Brushed DC or BLDC, SPM or IPM; no difference to us. Connecting clients with the electric drive system they need is what we do. We specialize in converting difficult technical projects with often contrary requirements into competitive, production intent, qualification ready designs clients can capitalize into profitable production programs. EMS draws talent from a broad network of experienced engineers from diverse disciplines to create fast, cross-functional, contract-based project teams to address your electric machine challenges. Our passion for electric machines keeps us ahead of emerging technologies. Our extensive industrial experience across multiple markets as practicing engineers gives us the technical depth and commercial savvy to distinguish promising developments from mere fads, and a robust technical toolset to take on the toughest electric machine problems. I have over 30 years of hands-on experience developing, building, integrating, and testing custom designed, power-dense electric machines for high performance applications in the commercial, aerospace, mining, electrified transport, and distributed power generation markets. A sampling of the electric machine topologies in the EMS portfolio include: liquid cooled, IPM traction motors; high speed, copper rotor induction machines; variable speed, synchronous generators with brushless excitation; and low weight, fractional slot, concentrated winding, SPM machines.
