About Michael Rung

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Michael J. Rung's military career began as a Private in the United States Army on May 27, 1977 where he served as a Medical Specialist for three years and achieved the rank of Specialist. On May 15, 1981, he transferred into the Illinois Army National Guard where he served for two years in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps Simultaneous Membership Program as a Cadet. On May 14, 1983, he commissioned into the United States Army Officer Corps as a Second Lieutenant and on January 07, 1986, he graduated from the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Entry Course/ US Army Flight School before entering the United States Army Reserves on May 16, 1986. On December 12, 1987, he transferred to the Florida Army National Guard and was subsequently promoted to First Lieutenant on December 12, 1987; Captain on July 22, 1989; Major on October 30, 1997; and Lieutenant Colonel on January 18, 2007. On June 10, 2010, he reverted to Warrant Officer Two and was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Three on June 01, 2014. During his long and faithful career with the Florida Army National Guard, Lieutenant Colonel Rung served as Attack Platoon Leader, Company B, 1st Battalion, Aviation Regiment (Attack Helicopter); and with (Atk Hel) as Battalion Administrative Officer/Adjutant, Battalion Security/Intelligence Officer, Supply/Logistics Officer, Assistant Operations and Training Officer, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer, and as Company Commander, (Atk Hel); and as Airfield Commander, Camp Blanding Joint Training; Joint Force Headquarters as Aviation Staff Officer, Aviation Safety Officer, and Aviation Systems Branch Chief; and as Commander, Company C, 1st Battalion, General Support Aviation Battalion (Air Ambulance); and with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 151st Aviation (Security & Support) as UH-72A Lakota Instructor Pilot, and Aviation Standardization Officer.
