About Michael Scanlon
Michael works as a Project Leader for the rollout of the Europa Experience Visitors' Centres having previously worked as a Project Leader in the European Parliament's visitors' centre in Brussels, the Parlamentarium. Before joining the Parliament in 2019, Michael worked for 15 years in the private sector, gaining extensive change management, communications, evaluation and project management experience. He has worked for clients in the public sector, financial services and media industries, gaining a broad range of advisory experience in business and communications. He also has extensive experience of working with partners, such as the College of Europe, to deliver client events such as the Bruges European Business Conference. In 2010, a project that Michael managed for the European Commission entitled 'Educational study on the euro' was awarded a ‘Gold Quill for Excellence’ by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). In the area of public policy, Michael served as a Research Assistant to the Joint-Committee on Health and Children in the Irish Parliament in 2001 during its inquiry into Health and Smoking. He drafted the parliamentary report on the Committee’s proceedings and its recommendations leading to the March 2004 “Smoking Ban” in the workplace in the Irish Republic prompting similar bans in the UK, France, Belgium, Italy, Norway and New Zealand. Michael has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Politics and French from University College Dublin and a Master’s degree in European Studies from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. Michael speaks English, French, Irish and some Portuguese. In 2018, he completed a Diploma in Law in Ireland.
