About Michael Scholl

I am an accomplished leader in marine biology and environmental science, with a focus on conservation, research, and education. As the Executive Director of the University of Liège's Aquarium and Museum of Zoology, I am committed to fostering scientific literacy and environmental stewardship. I lead a dedicated team that not only ensures the well-being of our living animal collections in the Aquarium and Naturalia collection in the Museum, but also educates and inspires our visitors about biodiversity and the natural world. My leadership skills are not confined to museum management. I have a proven track record in crafting global strategies, forging strong partnerships, and elevating brand awareness. I also serve as the Chair of the Communication Working Group for the IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group, where I contribute to the global conservation efforts for sharks, rays, and chimaeras. Before my current role, I held various positions that enriched my career and honed my expertise. I served as the CEO of the White Shark Trust and the Save Our Seas Foundation, and as the Program Coordinator for explorer Mike Horn's Pangaea Young Explorer Program. My diverse experience also includes teaching Science and Mathematics and working as a Specialist Guide in marine ecotourism. I am passionate about non-profit organisation management and leadership, managing international teams, and innovating in environmental communication. My ultimate goal is to inspire a paradigm shift in how we perceive and protect our oceans and their inhabitants.
