About Michael Shatter

A Board Member, Chairperson of a Audit and risk Committee, Independent Member of Audit and Risk Committees, and speaker/presenter, I bring more than 33 years of experience across both the public and private sectors. With extensive expertise in governance, risk advisory and management services, delivering information and organisational security, privacy, systems assurance, probity, and integrity services. My career has been centred on a mission to integrate governance, internal controls and integrity into the strategic and operational fabric of medium to large organisations and their activities at multiple levels. Working with all levels of management, I focus on delivering practical, commercial and technically expert guidance and solutions to governance, risk management challenges as well as to system procurement, implementation and security management practices. I have partnered with and advised executive teams, audit committees, government departments, Ministers and State Premiers on a wide range of highly public and complex matters/transactions, assuring fair, equitable and defensible practices. My experience also includes expertise in the ever-evolving areas of IT and Cyber Security risk management with over 30 years of reviewing, auditing and advising on IT risks and security. Over the last 21 years, I have built two of RSM Australia's practice specialisations in probity and cyber security.I am known for pragmatic, commercially sound advice that takes into consideration the whole ecosystem of risk and nuances of organisational execution and an approachable style of engagement that is based on a strong sense of personal responsibility, values and respect. More important, I bring my full personality to my governance roles to ensure interactions are positive, professional and respectful. My objective is to engage with those I am working with or presenting to and enjoy presenting or being a guest speaker on a wide range of risk-based topics, including governance, integrity processes, cyber security, data privacy and of course all things associated with risk management. Key areas of expertise include boardroom governance, audit and risk committee membership, providing extensive and practical insight and direction.
