About Michael Singer

I was born in Konstanz, Germany on January 5, 1984. In grew up in Radolfzell, a small town at Lake Constance. Since my childhood, I am excited about the environment. At the age of six, I designed emission-free rockets and cars, and a device to repair the ozone layer. To this day, I am curious and eager to learn. I am interested in languages, cultures, social issues, politics, and technology. I never stop trying out new things. Often, I do things differently from most people and tread my own path. This path is not always straight but I continuously focus on my goals. When I encounter difficulties, I have the inner confidence to surmount them. Due to my curiosity, I graduated in two different fields. I first studied Asian Studies and Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz, then Environmental Systems Sciences at the University of Graz. For both final theses, I conducted field surveys in Indonesia. The first survey concerned social and environmental issues in integrated water resource management. The second survey addressed strategic options for different stakeholders in integrated solid waste management. During and in between both studies I worked in different fields, got involved in voluntary work, and spend a considerable time abroad. Driven by a deeper interest for the subject area of solid waste management, I am developing an online platform to connect and advocate waste-related initiatives. Just recently, my wife and I have started a social business to promote sustainable products sourced and manufactured in Indonesia, and also to support innovative start-ups there.
