About Michael Solis

I am a purpose-driven leader with a deep commitment to humanitarian action, development, human rights, and environmental sustainability. Over the past 16 years, I have gained extensive global experience across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, including in fragile and post-conflict settings. I have worked with international and local nonprofit organizations in various capacities, including as Global Director, Country Director, Head of Programs, and Business Development and Compliance Manager. In my current role as Localization Expert at IOM, I offer knowledge and technical guidance to country offices, regional offices, headquarters, and senior leadership.In addition to the above, I am a passionate writer who believes in the power of storytelling. My work has appeared in academic journals, books like Together We Stand (World Humanitarian Summit, 2016), and publications like Huffington Post and The Atlantic. My first young adult, science-fiction novel, Deficient, was published in September 2023 and has been nominated for the 2024 PEN/Hemingway Award for Best Debut Novel, 2024 American Library Association's Stonewall Award, and 2024 Pushcart Prize.
