About Michael Sollitto

Michael Sollitto has been engaged in the construction industry for over 25 years. Michael is a sustainability advocate, is an FGBC and NAHB Certified Green Professional (CGP) and currently the Director of Construction for Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County, Inc. in Venice, FL. Since joining Habitat in 2008, he has built over 120 homes enabling low income families to live in affordable, energy efficient, durable and sustainable homes. Michael manages staff and volunteers to build homes certified to Energy Star and Florida Green Building Coalition Platinum standards. He has taken efficiency to a new level by participating in the Dept. of Energy Net Zero Ready Home Program. Specific project highlights include construction of nine duplex town homes on an infill site within the Certified Local Green Government of Sarasota County and a six home cluster housing development in Laurel. In both 2012 and 2014, case studies were performed by the Dept. of Energy - Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on a deep retrofit home in Venice and new construction in Nokomis. The retrofit won the NAHB Research Center and US Dept. of Energy Building Technology Program 2012 Silver Energy Value Housing Award for existing home reconstruction in the hot climate category. New construction homes have won the US Dept. of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy - Zero Energy Ready (ZERH) Housing Innovation Award - Affordable Housing for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 & 2020.
