About Michael Stephen Taylor

I am a senior trade compliance leader at Honeywell International. I have experience in OFAC/BIS/European Union and United Nations sanctions. This includes several sectors such as denied parties, embargoes and export control. Initially, I started as an analyst working solely on denied parties screening. After 2 years, I took on the role of export control supervisor where I was tasked with recruiting, training and facilitating an entirely new team. This new role helped me branch out in my knowledge of the various areas of trade compliance as we began to screen shipments in order to not breach any embargoes or BIS restrictions. Additionally, I combined new sanctions knowledge with old while creating a comprehensive screening process that screened denied parties and export control through Europe, Middle East and Africa. By creating and leading an export control team, I gained an understanding of BIS product classification for ECCN codes, US and EU specifically regarding embargoes on countries and regions such as Syria, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Crimea and screening against BIS listings. After 4 years of this role, I moved to work at Honeywell in trade compliance leading their PMT division. At Honeywell I have operated with import compliance, concentrating on areas of tax savings and delaying VAT payments. I oversaw over 100 manufacturing, importing and exporting sites while maintaining our companies compliance standards. These standards were kept through vigorous audits, trainings, feedbacks and consistent follow ups. Across the sites I manage, I have implemented policies regarding: Preferential origin, outward processing relief (OPR), brokerage implementation, customs reporting, customs warehouse integration among other strict customs policies. Protecting a network can not be done alone, and must be done through a secure set of checks and balances. This is not only important for a network, but for customers as well. This is the standard for my work.
