About Michael Swift

I am a 30 year old male, pronouns He/Him, who is working with housed individuals with a history of chronic homelessness in a residential services case manager role. I am extremely dedicated, and formerly homeless myself, I was and continue to be motivated by the idea that there can always be something better for those who struggle. I am dedicated to the cause of homelessness and poverty, as well the ideals of trauma-informed care, positive psychology, and viewing all my clients with unconditional positive regard. I support the practices of cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and talk therapy, and I support the idea that things can always get better, you might just need a little bit of help and push in the right direction. I have been working in the field in various capacities for the past 3-4 years, first as a volunteer through Friends of Boston’s Homeless, then with Spare Change News as a board member and volunteer coordinator, then started at Homestart as a Housing Search Navigator, then moving into the Stabilization Case Manager, after which I moved to St. Francis House as a Residential Services Case Manager. I can build strong trusting relationships with difficult clients, build honest communication between myself and other organizations and their workers, and I can handle working from home or working in the office. I am well-versed in how to interact with people currently experiencing homelessness, well-versed in building trust between myself and my clients, and have been known to go the extra mile on many occasions to make certain that my clients are well taken care of. I have traveled with a client overnight by bus to another state to retrieve a long-denied birth certificate, I have advocated at every chance I could to make sure my clients get what they need, and I am skilled in communication, both written and verbal, as well as taken on a leadership role for many hobbies of mine outside of work hours.
