Background
About Michael Thornton
I graduated from Texas Christian University in December 2015 with a major in criminology. I landed my first job with Pegasus Logistics Group where I held the position of, Operations Coordinator. In this position my daily role was to watch an overflow of shipments that were domestic and international while making sure that they arrived to their final destinations safely/efficiently. During this process I would speak with vendors and carriers while keeping direct communications with our customer service team. I would also create shipments through our software and get different rates through a variety of different vendors to get the best quote possible. After working for Pegasus Logistics Group I knew Lockheed is where I wanted to be, specifically in Supply Chain. I started working for Lockheed in July 2017 as a Subcontract Administrator Associate for LM BAE Teammate in support of the F-35. My job was to deal directly through BAE with other sub-tier companies like Honeywell, PacSci, and Selex. During my everyday job, I would work with parts that come from each of these suppliers and create purchase orders and tie purchase requisitions to fulfill different LRIP's that have been agreed upon between BAE and LM. In July 2019, I was able to fulfill a role at MFC in Grand Prairie, TX as an Analyst on the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Defense) Interceptor team. My job was to organize and execute activities between the Global Supply Chain and Production Operations for the THAAD program. I managed all material requirements, attended shortage meetings and assisted the GSC team with any supplier related issues. As of January 2022, my current role has been with Fluor Federal Petroleum in New Orleans, LA as a buyer. In this role I purchase parts and negotiate contracts for the program. I also maintain communication with suppliers for any issues that include returning parts, finding replacement parts for obsolete material, finding lost parts for our different sites, and negotiating pricing for quotes.
