About Michael Tucker

I hold a PhD from the Department of Engineering Physics at McMaster University. My research project focused on the propagation of uncertainties through the many steps in the simulation of nuclear power plants. Throughout this work I used the SCALE and Serpent code systems for lattice level studies, the PARCS code for core level studies, and the TRACE code for system thermal-hydraulics studies. I performed extensive data analysis using MATLAB, where I have also wrote scripts to automate experiments and to mimic operator interactions with nuclear systems. prior to my graduate studies I completed a B. Eng in the Engineering Physics and Management program at McMaster University, where I developed a strong foundation of technical principles and learned key concepts about the financial management of large projects. I have previously worked as a student intern with Kinectrics, where I helped developed CANDU specific modifications to the TRACE code system. Additionally, I worked as a student operator in the McMaster Nuclear reactor, where I gained hands-on experience on the operation and maintenance of an operating nuclear facility. During my graduate studies I have acted as the co-chair of the local Canadian Nuclear Society branch, facilitating special lectures by a variety of guest speakers and supporting young scientists and engineers by arranging annual participation in the Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair on behalf of the CNS. I am a passionate supporter of the further development of nuclear energy in Canada and am excited to begin a role where I can make a more direct contribution to that goal.
