About Michael Wynn

I’ve been drawn to mathematics and computers since my first exposure. I made sure to immerse myself in the highest-level math, engineering, and computer science classes available; but was unsure how to meld these skills into a definitive career path. I was introduced to data science and analytics via my love for NBA basketball. Daryl Morey’s Houston Rockets touted an impressive competitive advantage – supposedly provided by statistics. I needed to know more. Delving further, I discovered MIT’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, and was instantly hooked. In data science, I saw an avenue through which I could apply my skills (detail-oriented problem solver with a growth mindset) to work that is meaningful and rewarding. At long last, I could quantify and solve problems that I did not innately understand. This was a powerful realization that kept me dedicated to developing my data skills. I believe advancements regarding the size and availability of data will lead to revolutionary overhaul in many industries, specifically those without verifiable metrics, dominated by draconian tactics. I am grateful to be involved in this industry during such an influential period. Hopefully, I can shed some light on humanity’s greatest mysteries. If not, helping others grasp concepts more easily will suffice.
