About Michael Yialas

With 13 years in the mining sector and a robust foundation in exploration with OZ Minerals, I have navigated the intricate paths of emergency response, culminating in a pivotal role as the Health & Emergency Response Coordinator. My tenure with OZ Minerals and BHP has been marked by the mentorship of a 12-strong direct report team, the strategic handling of extensive indirect reports, and the adept management of team budgets and project delivery. As a SAMERC committee member for half a decade, I've honed my expertise in healthcare and emergency response, pioneering tools and programs that enhanced my site response capabilities and compliance. My commitment to operational excellence is reflected in my leading role in advancing emergency response aptitude and orchestrating a comprehensive healthcare program aimed at mitigating musculoskeletal injuries through education and heightened site awareness. Post OZ Minerals/BHP, my entrepreneurial spirit took the helm, leading to the inception of Emergency Service Group and VATEX Pty Ltd—ventures at the vanguard of emergency response and mining industry healthcare, and the innovation of technologies to improve worker health. My approach to healthcare and emergency response is entrenched in a philosophy that marries practical strategy with intrinsic value for clients and businesses alike. This ethos is brought to life by prioritising consumer experiences, which guides my system designs towards simplicity and efficacy. Outside the professional realm, I am a father to three beautiful daughters, engorge in as much music as possible to enrich my ever-forging balance between personal growth and professional excellence.
