About Michael Zabel

I am a finance professional based in Munich, Germany, currently serving as the Group Controller for Investments at Allianz SE. In this role, I oversee all investment-related activities across Allianz Group and act as the key link between Allianz SE and its specialized investment units. Additionally, I have led several high-impact strategic projects/initiatives in the investment and asset management sectors, driving innovation, efficiency, and operational excellence. Prior to this, I held positions at Allianz Investment Management and Generali Germany, where I led significant initiatives in investment management, risk oversight, and Solvency II compliance. These roles allowed me to enhance financial stability, strengthen regulatory alignment, and drive impactful projects across diverse business areas. I hold a PhD in Economics, specializing in monetary economics and international finance, with research published in leading academic journals. During my studies, I earned numerous honors, including the “Alumni Prize for Young Economists” as the top graduate at LMU Munich, a Fulbright scholarship for my studies at Georgetown University, and a full academic stipend from the Hanns Seidel Foundation. I am also a CFA charterholder, underscoring my dedication to expertise, ethical standards, and professionalism in the field of investment management.
