About Michael Zammit

My undergraduate degree was Industrial Chem, which covered subjects as diverse as physical and organic chemistry, material science, process automation, polymer science, and optimisation of chemical processes. I then studied for my PhD, in which I conducted research in the area of free radical polymerization kinetics. Whilst studying for my PhD, I also conducted research into methods for production of well-defined polymers with precisely defined molecular architectures and nano-structured morphologies. Prior to joining Shelston IP, I worked for Dulux in their Resin Technology laboratories and simultaneously completed a Grad. Cert. in Surface Coatings Tech. I have also worked at the James Hardie R & PD laboratories, where I conducted research into fibre cement composites and building products. I have also completed a course at TAFE on injection moulding and polymer extrusion. I am a Chartered Chemist of the Royal Australia Chemical Institute, and I won the RACI Treloar Price for aspects of my PhD research. I am a named inventor on WO04/31093 Whilst at Shelston IP, I have been involved in all aspects of patent attorney work, including: inventor interviews, prior art searches and analysis, drafting of patent specifications, patent prosecution work in all the major jurisdictions, preparation of patent validity and infringement advice, freedom to operate opinions, and I have been involved in AU and EU opposition proceedings. I was also on secondment to multinational client 1 day/month for around 2 yrs. I have drafted and prosecuted patent applications in a diverse range of fields of technology, such as welding apparatus/methods, polymer/cementitious composites, surface coatings apparatus for conducting pyrosequencing, biocompatible materials, optical input devices and user interface methods, building products, medical devices, and mining methods. I also hold a Diploma in Technical Analysis of the financial markets and I am a Certified Financial Technician (CFTe).
