About Michaela Ausbrooks

ABOUT:Prior to my recent graduation from UNC-CH, I reflected back on my collegiate career. I have known I wanted to work towards a future in the legal career since my sophomore year of high school. I have always enjoyed the opportunity to be an advocate and make a difference in people's lives. And, while I continued to work towards that goal throughout my undergraduate years through opportunities like serving as President of Carolina's student-run mock trial program, serving as Honor Chairwoman of my sorority, and an internship with the District Attorney's office in Raleigh, NC, I realized that after 2 years of online classes and isolation throughout the pandemic, I needed to take some time before continuing to the next step of law school.CURRENTLY:Currently I am serving as a paralegal with the Market Integrity and Major Fraud section of the Department of Justice. Since beginning work in June of 2022, I have had amazing opportunities to handle discovery, help with case prep, and present exhibits at court. I have also been given the opportunity to learn from amazing attorneys who have kindly taken the time to help me understand more about the justice system and the process from opening a case, taking it to court, and seeing it through to sentencing. I am so excited to continue learning more from my attorneys and peers and gaining more invaluable experience I can take with my into my law school journey and future legal career.
