About Michaela George
My drive to push back the frontiers of science and medicine, combined with motivation to create positive impact on people and society, has led me to a PhD at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology within The University of Queensland. My research focuses on design of both natural and synthetic smart biomaterials to modulate immune response during wound healing, in collaboration with the Burns, Skin and Wounds team at Herston Biofabrications Institute within the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital. I am a recipient of the UQ Graduate School Research Training Program Scholarship and AIBN Entrepreneurial PhD Scholarship, and Scholar at the Andrew N. Liveris Academy for Innovation and Leadership. I currently co-ordinate regional engineering for Engineers without Borders (UQ Chapter) and am president of the AIBN Student Association.
