About Michaela McKinney

As a Stroke Advanced Nurse Practitioner at North Bristol NHS Trust, I work within an expanding team of nurse practitioners, attending all FAST positive thrombolysis calls, independent assessment of patients, and offering treatment and diagnoses. We perform the highest amount of thrombectomies in the UK and have recently extended our service to offer 24/7 Thrombectomy and a new hyper acute stroke unit, centralising all acute stroke care within our region. I have a passion for neurosciences and improving stroke care and have undertaken numerous quality improvement projects in my role. I am currently working to improve in-hospital stroke recognition and treatment, focusing on training ward staff and simulation based learning, as well as improving our door to needles times through audit and training. I have gained an MSc in advanced practice and keen to network and discuss all things neurosciences and stroke with other healthcare workers in the UK, Ireland, USA and Australia. I am particularly interested in mobile stroke units, improving patient outcomes by increasing timely treatment options to patients.
