About Michaela Mesler

As a senior at the University of Maryland, majoring in Human Development, I've spent the past several years shaping both my academic knowledge and my professional identity. My journey has been driven by a deep commitment to advocating for young children, especially those in high-risk and vulnerable circumstances. Through my diverse roles as an assistant teacher, daycare leader, paraeducator, and research assistant, I have gained invaluable hands-on experience that has fueled my passion for research and advocacy in education.In addition to my professional background, I’ve had to be incredibly resourceful throughout my college journey. I independently financed my education and livelihood by working countless hours at a local diner. This experience taught me resilience and independence—two strengths I consistently demonstrate. I take pride in my ability to lead, confront challenges head-on, and make the most of every opportunity.Currently, I intern at the Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention and collect data for the Reading Mastery Project at the University of Maryland. I am deeply committed to bridging research with state and federal policy to shape best practices. In five years, I see myself working in educational policy, consulting, or with a nonprofit focused on advocating for vulnerable populations.
