About Michaela Perske

Michaela Perske is an award-winning journalist and producer who made the transition from radio to television in 2004 with the documentary feature FOOTY CHICS (SBS) which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival. Followed by INSPIRING TEACHERS (SBS), a 4 x 30-minute observational series and MAKING BABIES (SBS) a 2 x1 hour series. In 2008/9 Michaela was the EP on EMBEDDED (SBS) a 3 x 1 hour series where everyday people confronted wider issues facing the community. In 2010 Michaela established Pursekey Productions and produced BOXING FOR PALM ISLAND (ABC) directed by Adrian Russell Wills that opened the 2010 Message Sticks Film Festival. Boxing for Palm Island was a finalist in 2010 IF Awards and has screened at a number of international festivals and sold internationally. In 2011 Michaela was the Series Producer on SEX: AN UNNATURAL HISTORY (SBS) a groundbreaking 6 x 26-minute series hosted by Julia Zemiro. In 2012 she and Adrian teamed up again to make the landmark documentary film 88 (ABC) supported by Screen Australia through the NDP. In 2016 she produced DESTINATION ARNOLD for ABC TV which received a special mention at the Sydney International Film Festival. She was also the Executive Producer of the Screen Australia Hot Shots funded short film DREAM BABY which won the AACTA for best Australian short in 2016 and the landmark documentary SERVENT OR SLAVE for NITV. In 2017 she produced the feature film AFTER THE APOLOGY which premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival and will be released nationally in May 2018. Her short animated film BARBARA was nominated for best animated short at the AACTA awards in 2017 and her latest documentary feature BLACK DIVAZ premiered in February 2018 at the Queer Screen Film Festival taking out the audience award and also aired on NITV & SBS. She is currently producing the online documentary film LOST RAMBOS for the Guardian and developing a slate of documentary and drama projects through her company Pursekey Productions.
