About Michaela Powell

If you’re looking for me I’m probably outside, with dirt on my hands and a smile on my face. I began my journey with a degree in Communication Studies and Sustainability from the University of Iowa. My passion for outdoor education was ignited after graduation by my time at the North Liberty Community Pantry piloting “Grow It! Cook It!” a youth program where I worked with kids teaching them to grow, care for, and cook their own food in the community garden. I continued to develop my skills as an outdoor educator by dedicating the past two years to connecting kids to healthy food through service work with FoodCorps AmeriCorps. During my time with FoodCorps I gained a strong understanding of our food system and blossomed as an educator. I thrive off of building professional relationships with colleagues and students to promote a higher quality of life for all and to enhance individual wellness and environmental literacy by making space for choice and decision making through recreation and leisure. In my free time I enjoy running, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, reading and meeting new people! I am driven by a passion for environmental education, social equity, and building intentional relationships within my community.
