About Michara Delaney-Fields

With over eighteen years of experience in higher education, I am a passionate and dedicated educator and leader who has served in various roles at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU), a member of the University of Texas System, Albany State University (ASU) and Texas Southern University (TSU). In my current role as Assistant Vice President for Campus Services and Operations, I am responsible for the overall operation and management of university student services including housing, graphic shop, camps and conferences, post office, student development, testing services, disability services, veteran services, contracted services ( bookstore, vending, pouring rights, and campus dining), and Baker Pattillo Student Center. As Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, I lead the Division of Student Affairs through administrative tasks including policy development, budget management, resource allocation, personnel management, strategic planning, crisis management and finance and public relations. As Vice President for Student Affairs, we ensured effective collaboration and support for students by engaging directly with students to address their needs and concerns while promoting a healthy and holistic student experience. As the Special Advisor to the President, I provided strategic guidance and support to the executive leadership on matters and initiatives on moving the institution forward. I’m also serve as Graduate Adjunct Faculty in the Student Affairs Higher Education Program, sharing my knowledge and expertise in educational leadership, kinesiology, health education, and physical education. I hold a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Prairie View A&M University, and multiple degrees from Texas Southern University. My skills include strong written and verbal communication, leadership skills including delegation, motivation, and the ability to navigate complex situations, program management, proficient in technology including learning management systems, data analysis, marketing, collaboration and teamwork, student development and more. My mission is to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders and scholars, and to contribute to the excellence and innovation of SFASU.
