About Michel Plourde

I am a musician, artist and researcher with good musical sensibilities and "great ears", and as such have received the nick-name "Spock". I have 45 years of study and up to 35 years of practical application in composition, performance, arranging, conducting, recording, engineering, research, proof-reading and teaching (as well as retail and warehouse experience in the music industry). At one point or another I have composed, arranged, orchestrated and conducted for stage, radio, film or television. Although I prefer the look of my hand copied scores, I have been working with Finale since 1990 and was for years, an arranger and lay-out artist for Warner Chappel Music. For the last decade I have mostly been working as a live sound person and teacher, although I do compose when time permits and occasionally still perform. My goals are to do things that are musically interesting and meaningful, while researching the age old question of "what exactly is music?" in the hopes that I can pass this info on through my compositions, theories, blogs and eventually, a series educational videos. For the past several years I have been studying temperament, micro-tonality and neurology - and how they relate to acoustics and music in general. Recent projects include work on my cycle called "the Stars of the Constellations" which will eventually involve dozens of pieces ranging from solo and chamber works to orchestral and large ensemble ones. Some of these can be heard in videos I have posted on my YouTube channel "spocksmusic" or my FaceBook artist page. Specialties: music, composition, orchestration, mixing, research, transcriptions, anything avant guard (graphic scores, micro-tonal and aleatoric pieces), research, drawing. I have performed or have been recorded on: electric & acoustic bass, piano & keyboards, voice, guitar, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, recorder, banjo, harmonica, percussion and have recently started to learn harp and piccolo.
