About Michele Figus

Michele Figus, a holder of M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, serves as Full Professor in Ophthalmology and Chairman in the Residency School in Ophthalmology at University of Pisa, Italy since 2018. He became Chairman of the Ophthalmology Unit at Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Pisana and Director of the Center for Vision Education and Rehabilitation of Pisa in 2021. He worked at Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana since 2001 and he is Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (F.E.B.Ophth.) since 2016. His main areas of interest are glaucoma, cataract surgery, ocular surface diseases, uveitis, and retinal diseases. He has been duty as National Expert in Ophthalmic Diagnosis (2010-2020) for the Italian Ophthalmology Society. Michele is an eye surgeon (cataract, glaucoma). He is author of 183 JCR indexed articles in ophthalmology and visual sciences as well as 7 books, 20 book chapters, and 5 special issues as Guest Editor. He serves as Associate Editor in 3 indexed journals. He serves as Faculty member of European School for Advances Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO) and as Advisor in the Ocular Disease Patients Association. He is member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, European Glaucoma Society, World Glaucoma Association (Patient Committee Member), International Society of Cornea, Stem Cells and Ocular Surface (Board Member), Italian Ophthalmological Sciences Society, Italian Association of Medical Ophthalmologists, Italian Glaucoma Society (Vice President), Italian Association for Glaucoma Study.
