About Michelle A Pinkowski

With 30 years of experience as an Attorney and Development Professional, I have cultivated a diverse career marked by significant contributions to legal reforms, economic development, and civil rights advocacy. I am passionately solution-driven and work effectively with teams of experts to achieve real and lasting results. In Sri Lanka, for example, I helped the Tourism Development Authority make the environment more friendly for investment in the tourism sector through vastly reduced approval times and better government service delivery. Because of these changes, even during the pandemic, interest in tourism investments increased by $400M. This success led to project extensions and two subsequent projects to support Sri Lanka tourism to become more sustainable, including through the development of niche tourism businesses and a land information system. In Bangladesh, I helped to initiate reforms to make the built environment safer and more resilient for Dhaka’s 17M people. In Kosovo, I spearheaded a construction formalization program that started the process of unlocking an estimated €7 billion in capital to fuel economic growth, alongside significant contributions to reforms recognized by the World Bank, positioning Kosovo as a 'Doing Business Top Reformer'. In the private sector, I effectively guide clients through complex legal landscapes, ensuring their projects not only comply with regulations but also contribute positively to community development. My work in this area is complemented by a strong commitment to promoting access to housing for people with disabilities, and I am a leading voice advocating for fair housing opportunities. My practice is focused on the intersection of land use and civil rights and especially helps senior housing developers, owners and operators. My journey is characterized by a deep-seated belief in the power of law and development to effectuate positive change. I am driven by the vision of a world where legal systems and well-functioning governments empower communities, promote equity, and foster sustainable development.
