I take great pride in creating course content that is accessible to all adult learners, engaging, and relevant to their lives. With over hours combined post-secondary teaching experience at Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, Collège La Cité, and Algonquin College, I have in-depth knowledge of all aspects of adult education, including innovative curriculum design and implementation, defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes, as well as online delivery of synchronous and asynchronous courses. I'm also adept at using different Learning Management Systems (LMSs). Specialties/Expertise- Teaching first-year English/Communications courses and English for Academic Purposes (EAP)- Helping civil servants prepare for Second Language Evaluation (SLE) tests for Oral, Reading, and Writing, with a special focus on helping them obtain their levels C and E (exemption)- Online language coaching for individuals and small groups from beginner to advanced level English, with a wide range of lessons on speaking, writing, reading, listening, grammar, and vocabulary-building- Mentoring new teachers and encouraging their professional growth as life-long teacher learners- Facilitating hands-on, practical workshops for newly certified and experienced teachers- Public speaking to audiences of 200+ at conferences and community events- Engaging in reflective practice and initiating Teacher Development Groups (TDGs)- Volunteering to help refugees and other immigrants settle into their new life in Canada by teaching them English & coaching them on how to find work (how to write a CV, how to network on LinkedIn, etc.)- Editing across many different genres (in academic, government, and non-profit sectors)- Writing across many different genres (academic, government, and creative writing); and - Researching: I love doing original research - anything from designing surveys to survey data analysis, running focus groups, and doing thorough interviews. I also enjoy finding reliable, scholarly articles on many different topics (I am a research nerd!)
