About Michelle Ashley

I have enjoyed a winding and stimulating career path over the past 20+ years in the media, social impact and now education sectors. Each role has offered valuable and transferrable knowledge and skills. I began my professional working life with Network Ten for over a decade. Initially employed as on-air talent for a children’s program, I quickly progressed to Creative Services Executive. Here I gained experience in the marketing and brand integration space, developing and executing innovative campaigns across the Network’s assets and flagship programs. Such campaigns are listed in my experience below. For the past 10 years I have worked as an Auslan-English Interpreter, providing the highest quality of service and commitment to the deaf community all over Australia, in a wide array of settings. My preferred work settings are legal, disability, mental health and human services (children). In this time I applied skills gleaned from my time at Network Ten to project manage two international conferences for the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI), and lead the Victorian branch of the Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association (ASLIA) as President for three years. Since 2018 I have led workshops for ASLIA, WASLI and Auslan Stage Left, and have taught the Diploma of Interpreting in Melbourne (RMIT), Brisbane, regional Queensland and Perth (Deaf Connect). Inspired by this important work, I am currently completing a B. Ed (Secondary) to teach another of my passions, Modern History. HSIE will be my second teaching area.
