About Michelle Avalos

Empowering changemakers to transform their vision into action for good!#CambiaElMundo I am passionate about economic development innovations and helping people find Decent Work to achieve Economic Growth!#SDG8 Backgroud: I arrived in the states at a very young age and grew up in the South Houston/Pasadena area. I attended public school in Pasadena ISD and became the first person in my family to graduate from university. I’ve applied my BBA in Supply Chain Management from The University of Houston to several industries including the energy sector, nonprofit leadership and management, entrepreneurship, and program design. I currently serve mi comunidad as one of the Co-Founders and Deputy Director at Impact Hub Houston (since 2018) and as the Co-Founder of TECH23 (since 2023), a media and entertainment company for the advancement of Latinos in Tech. With 7+ years of entrepreneurial and corporate experience and 12+ years in nonprofit board leadership & governance, event planning, skills based volunteer engagement, program design, and facilitation, I’m working to redefine and expand pathways for first-generation college graduates. Through my personal journey, I want to show first-generation college graduates that we can do good and do well for our families without having to sacrifice our unique gifts. If you want to learn more about my first-generation story, listen to my TEDxHoustonWomen talk:"The Role of the First."
