About Michelle Carr
Michelle Ann Carr graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelors' degree in Communication Studies; with a focus in Television and Film Production with a minor in History. After the completion of her degree she moved to London and worked for Ascent Media, One Post Production; assisting with various motion pictures as well as commercials and music videos. She then briefly returned to the states working for NBC, Channel 7, WHDH-TV Boston. She completed her master’s degree in film at Kingston University with her primary research in the area of History and Film looking at the practice and research that goes into the film-making process to produce historical films. More specifically, how filming on location plays a major role in the construction of visual history, adding a sense of connection to the past within historical, heritage, and literary adaptation films. She also worked for the British Film Institute on various projects; including the reconstruction of the BFI Southbank and the London Film Festival. Upon completion of her degree, Michelle joined Northeastern University’s Communication Studies Department teaching various courses. In 2011 she developed a Dialogue of Civilization Program teaching English Culture and Documentary Filmmaking abroad in London, a program which she has successfully run every year since. Taking more than 300+ students abroad she has overseen the development and production of several documentaries on various social, historical, and art based topics. In addition to teaching, Michelle is involved in faculty governance, serving on the Faculty Senate and Senate Agenda Committee as secretary. She has served on various committees including the Faculty Development Committee, Full-time Non-Tenure Track Faculty Committee, and the Global Education Committee. Highly involved in Global Experience at the University she has also serves as a faculty member on the Global Safety and Security Board (GSSAC) and wrote an extensive code of conduct policy, now a template in Northeastern’s Dialogue of Civilization Faculty Handbook. She has also served on various search committee’s such as the Communication Studies Chair Search, GEO Director Search committee, various faculty hiring committee’s and much more. Receiving the College of Art, Media, and Design Distinguished Service Faculty Award in 2022. Michelle additionally holds a graduate certificate in Business Administration and continues to work professionally in the Boston area on various educational research video projects as a freelance producer, editor and videographer.
