About Michelle Dean

I am a professor of management at SDSU. I have taught undergraduate classes in principles of management, human resource management, selection, compensation, and labor relations and negotiation. My research has been published in a variety of journals including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, International Journal of Selection and Assessment, Organizational Research Methods, Human Resource Management Review, and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice among others. I have received recognition for my research including the Sage Best Quantitative Paper Award in Group and Organization Management (2020), the Featured Top Rated Paper Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (2012), Best Paper Award from the Academy of Management Research Methods Division (2001), and Best Student Paper Award from International Personnel Management Association Assessment Council I have also been recognized for my teaching and service activities at SDSU with the SDSU Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Faculty Contributions to the University (2023), SDSU Quest for the Best Faculty Award (2019), Exceptional Service to Students Award (2015, 2018, 2019, 2020 - 2024), SDSU Fowler College of Business Council Best Faculty Involvement Award (2018; 2019; 2022; 2023, 2024), Mortar Board Outstanding Faculty Award (2015, 2019, 2022), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Advisor of the Year Award (2016), SDSU Dean of Students Outstanding Advisor Award (2016), Malcolm A. Love Award (2015), Department of Management Most Influential Professor Award (2007; 2014; 2022), Fowler College of Business Most Influential Faculty Award (2014; 2016), Fowler College of Business Teaching Excellence Award (2014), Dan Cornthwaite Luminary Award for Outstanding Advising (2014), and the Fowler Outstanding Faculty Contribution Award (2007; 2014). I currently serve as as Faculty Advisor to the SHRM SDSU Chapter, Coordinator and Undergraduate Advisor for the Human Resource Management Specialization, and Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Fowler College of Business.
