About Michelle Dent

I teach students in university settings and in community workshops to write, and read, and think critically. They, in turn, also teach me. My research is interdisciplinary; I am passionate about projects located at the intersections of the Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences. Currently writing a book about the history of women’s work in California, Washington, and Alaska during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I am also involved in various leadership roles that foster collaborative initiatives between the Expository Writing Program, Student Life, Residential Education, and the Global Network University. In my former role as Faculty Fellow in Residence I hosted small, medium, large, and x-large events as part of the Residential College Leadership program. These programs ranged from Sunday teatime knitting circles to art galas, silent auctions, a Faith Matters series, and a Women in Leadership series. I also partnered with students and RAs to create volunteer opportunities with local HIV/AIDS non profits and a variety of social justice issues including anti-racism, food security and urban farming, feminism, and eldercare. I am passionate about collaborating with students, faculty, and administrators to foster inter-group dialogues.
