About Michelle King

I am a writer, educator, and people person with a deep love for telling stories that matter. After graduating summa cum laude from Virginia Tech in 2021 with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in English Literature and Language and Communication Science and Social Inquiry, I began my professional career in book publishing as a marketing manager and publicist. In this role, I worked directly with up-and-coming authors, led media relations, and conducted strategic book launches tailored to each client’s personal goals. In 2022, I was elected as the Poet Laureate of Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park, Virginia—my home district. As the youngest Poet Laureate to ever hold the title, I spent two magical years honing my craft: visiting local high schools to teach poetry master classes and mentor students, delivering original performances at district-wide events, and immersing myself in the vibrant arts community of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. I recently relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and am pursuing a Master of Education from Point Park University, with a focus on English for grades 7-12. I am particularly passionate about arts advocacy, championing diversity and inclusion in creative spaces, and highlighting underrepresented voices. Community is at the core of my heart and soul.
