In my role, I facilitate the integration and analysis of data critical to advancing the business portfolios project teams to make well informed, data-driven decisions. In addition, I ensure the enabling platforms are focused on delivering the projects goals. This includes developing and implement strategies that are guided by the FAIR data principles (findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability); as well as drive standards and governance for data models for data integration/assembly and BI tool development. I collaborate with both local and enterprise data science and IT teams to ensure implementation of data pipeline solutions and governance strategies that automate and optimize data flow to decision makers; and champion data safe handling practices. As everything becomes more “digital”; and decision science and data science become integral for a successful portfolio project plan, I think is very important to have a robust data strategy that will enable companies to deliver the integrated data solutions. People are very important for a successful data strategy, and it is easy to get lost in the power that data science brings to any business portfolio. However, it is important to recognize the roles of data architects, data engineers, data analysts (BI specialists), and data stewards as critical to data science initiatives and crucial to a comprehensive data strategy. I am also a strong advocate for building both a data fluent and data literate culture for both people working directly in the data spaces as well as our business partners. I believe everyone can be a good data citizen with the right tools and opportunities.
