About Michelle Monkman

With over two decades in nursing, I bring extensive expertise in healthcare leadership, program development, and strategic oversight to my role as Senior Director, Health Programs and Services at Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc.(KIM). Currently, I focus on driving health equity and transformation for 23 Northern First Nations in Manitoba, ensuring safe, equitable, and racism-free care through collaborative program design, implementation, and evaluation. My work emphasizes aligning health services with community priorities while developing performance metrics and fostering accountability alongside executive leadership and clinical teams. A recognized leader in Indigenous health, I have contributed to multiple scholarly publications and curriculum development initiatives addressing anti-Indigenous racism in healthcare. My work is rooted in advancing truth and reconciliation goals, and I bring a strategic, process-driven approach to improving health outcomes. From shaping innovative service models to supporting health transfer processes, I am committed to fostering sustainable solutions that reflect cultural safety, sovereignty, and are community-driven.
