About Michelle Peters

As the Closure Manager in Canada at De Beers Group, a leading diamond company with global operations and a diverse workforce, I oversee the planning and implementation of closure activities for our Canadian mines. I have a BSc in Earth Science from Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (NWU), and I am a certified lead auditor for the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. With two decades of experience in the environmental field and mining industry, I have developed and applied expertise in closure planning and execution, environmental monitoring and reporting, environmental risk management, and rehabilitation of mine sites. I have successfully led the Site based environmental management transition from production to full on care and maintenance, closure planning and the active closure execution phase for the Snap Lake Mine. I have also contributed to peer group assessments of operating mines in Southern Africa and Canada, using a systems approach to achieve world class results in environmental management. My mission is to ensure that the Mine Closure Planning and Execution activities of De Beers Group are conducted in a responsible and sustainable manner, respecting the environment and the communities within which we operate.
