About Michelle Simone

I first became actively involved in politics in 2016 in Northern Virginia when I had the amazing opportunity to volunteer for the Bernie Sanders campaign. I moved back to Contra Costa County in Northern California in 2017 and quickly became involved in community organizing in the East Bay Area. I worked with parent and teacher organizations, community leaders, and the Black Teachers Association of Mt. Diablo. In 2020, I recruited and managed the successful campaign of Keisha Nzewi, the first Black Trustee at Mt. Diablo Unified School District. In 2020, I was appointed to the City of Pleasant Hill's Education Commission, leading the DEI subcommittee to analyze educational trends in local schools.I was recently elected a member of the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County representing District 4 (Concord, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Clayton) as well as holding an appointed seat on the Endorsement Committee. In 2021, I served as a Co-Chair to the Training Committee developing and presenting candidate training for participants state-wide. Additionally, I directed the move to district elections for the City of Pleasant Hill with the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley, Asian Law Caucus, Pleasant Hill Community Alliance, and dozens of engaged residents.I make it a point to assure all my work is centered in social justice and education. As the Former DEI Chair with the County Parent Teacher Association, I was able to actively champion diversity, equity, and inclusion for all PTAs in the County. I'm a legal surrogate parent assisting students who are unhoused and in the foster care system with their educational decisions. I was a finalist for the Social Justice Award with the local teacher’s union two years in a row. When not immersed in political campaigns, you'll find me volunteering in our local schools, practicing yoga, visiting different dimensions, decolonizing western esoteric practices, and sleeping.
