About Michelle Thomas

I am an adult nurse and health visitor and work as a senior lecturer at the University of South Wales, my teaching is mainly for adult nursing and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programmes. I enjoy using simulation especially Hydra Minerva Immersive Simulation with my students. I am interested in all aspects of public health and the impact that public health has on the inequalities in health across the nation and wider community. I really enjoy supporting students and spending time in the classroom with students and social interactions across the University and with health board partners. I have external examiner experience for SCPHN programmes in the UK and external reviewer experience for health based university courses. I have acted as an editor for Health Professions Academy modules and have written papers for publication in a variety of nursing and health visiting journals. I am interested in qualitative research and have been part of the development team for the Family Resilience Assessment Instrument and Tool My areas of responsibility have been validity testing of the FRAIT, developing and delivering training for use of the FRAIT and establishing a thriving Health Visitor Community of Practice for FRIAT. I was awarded my PhD in 2022 which addresses communities of practice in Health Visiting. My PhD used qualitative research methods and Group Concept Mapping to establish an understanding of health visitor experiences of contributing to and participating in the HV community of practice for FRAIT Wales.
