Parent Trainer and Advocate Duties: • Prepared parents to advocate for their children with disabilities and to navigate through the special education system. • Attended Alternative Dispute Resolution meetings with parents of children on Individualized Educational Programs. • • Presented workshops on a variety of topics related to Special Education. • Created seminars with Pacer Center’s Youth Advisory Board to provide information to parents and professionals on how to help an adolescent with a mental health issue navigate through community and school:• Over 200 families served through home visits over short and extended time periods. • Facilitated parent groups for parents of children with all ages and with and without special needs. • Children’s teaching duties with preschool and kindergarten age children • Facilitated parent groups for at –risk families including single parents. • Co-founded/lead the Family literacy program for both Adult basic education learners and English as a learned language parents and their children. Family and Parent Education Duties for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) grant in Central Minnesota: • Developed relationships to bring training and resources into the area from state, local and national resources that include: The National Federation of Families, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Minnesota Association of Children’s Mental Health, Pacer Center, ARC and others. • Trained community members both professional and parents on the research of how system of care values move families forward in the treatment of their children with mental, emotional and behavioral health challenges. • Created and facilitated parent groups for parents of children 4 to 18 years with autism, chemical dependency and all other mental, emotional and behavioral health challenges. • Trained in Wraparound facilitation and Coaching.
